The Baltic Easter Egg-Stravaganza is over for another year, and what a weekend it was. Here at Dunes Event Group, we brought fun fair rides, live stage entertainment, and meet-and-greet experiences to the heart of Gateshead over the Easter bank holiday weekend. With around 750 people attending every single day, the event exceeded expectations and proved exactly what community-focused family events are capable of when planned and delivered with care.
Here's a full look back at how it all came together.
A Fun Fair at the Heart of it All
From the moment visitors arrived at the Baltic area of Gateshead, the atmosphere was electric. Colourful funfair rides lined the site, and the buzz of a classic fun fair filled the riverside setting. Because entry was completely free (with tickets booked in advance through our website), families from across the region could enjoy the day without worrying about the cost. Rides operated on a pay-as-you-go basis, giving everyone the flexibility to tailor their day.
The setting itself added something special. With the Millennium Bridge as a backdrop and bright spring skies overhead, the Baltic area was transformed into a vibrant Easter destination that felt genuinely celebratory. Food and drink stalls kept energy levels high throughout each five-hour session, and the crowds kept coming from opening at 12pm right through to close at 5pm.
Live Entertainment That Stopped the Crowd
The stage programme was arguably the standout element of the weekend. Each day brought a different theme, and each one drew a packed audience of children and parents gathered in front of the outdoor stage.
Saturday opened with princess and superhero performances that had younger children wide-eyed and engaged. Spiderman, Batman, and Frozen characters all made appearances, with meet-and-greet sessions giving kids the rare chance to get up close and take photos with their favourite characters.
Sunday shifted energy entirely with a K-Pop tribute performance. The photos from this set say it all. Performers in striking costumes delivered high-energy routines to a crowd that stretched right back through the site, with the fairground rides visible in the background and the Tyne glittering beyond. It was a genuinely impressive spectacle for what was, at its heart, a free community event.
Monday rounded off the weekend with Blippi and Ms Rachael tribute shows. The combination of these two beloved children's TV characters brought out some of the biggest crowds of the three days. The stage photo from Monday's show captures it perfectly: two performers in character, hundreds of smiling faces packed in front of them, and the whole site buzzing with energy behind.
750 People a Day: The Numbers Speak for Themselves
Pulling consistent crowds of around 750 people a day across a three-day outdoor event is no small achievement. It reflects both the strength of the programming and the appeal of a genuinely free, accessible event in a great location.
For families, the combination of fun fair rides, live shows, character meet-and-greets, and catering stalls meant there was always something to do. Parents didn't have to worry about keeping children entertained. The event handled that. For us, it was a demonstration of what thoughtful event production can deliver: a high-energy, well-attended experience that felt special without requiring visitors to spend a fortune.
Events like this matter for communities. Free access, a central location, and family-friendly programming create the conditions for people to come together, and that's exactly what happened over Easter weekend in Gateshead.
What the Event Showed About Dunes Event Group
The Baltic Easter Egg-Stravaganza was more than just a fun day out. It was a showcase for the kind of custom event solutions Dunes Event Group specialise in. Coordinating live entertainment, funfair ride logistics, character appearances, catering partners, ticketing, and site management across a multi-day outdoor event requires serious operational expertise.
Every element was considered. The free ticketing system managed visitor flow effectively. The daily entertainment schedule kept each day feeling distinct. The mix of rides, food, and live performance gave the site genuine dwell time, meaning families stayed, engaged, and had a real day out rather than a fleeting visit.
We have delivered events across a wide range of sectors and clients. If you want to understand the scale and variety of what our team has produced, our client portfolio gives a strong sense of the breadth of experience we bring to every event.

If you are thinking about organising something similar, whether that's a public fun fair, a community activation, or a large-scale family event, you can find out more about the entertainment available to hire or get a free quote directly from our team.
Details on the August event will be announced in due course. Watch this space.
